Offline billing and accounts software for produce market traders, in Urdu and English.
01 / The problem
Commission agents in produce markets bill many buyers for one trader's goods, take their charges off the top and need the ledgers to balance at the end of the day. The software has to work at a shop counter, without the internet, in Urdu as well as English.
02 / Decisions
Offline first
Everything runs on a local SQLite database on the shop's Windows PC. The internet is needed once, to activate the licence.
Ledgers that always balance
A sales bill debits each buyer, credits the trader the net amount and credits the charges to the commission account, so debits always equal credits.
Built for the counter
Urdu and English with right-to-left layout, keyboard-first screens, and receipts for 58 mm, 80 mm and A4 printers.
Updates without a visit
It ships as a Windows installer with checksums, and installed copies check a public release feed for new versions.
